North American Guqin Association

Elegant qin gathering invitation

  December 17, 2005

Dear Qin Friends:

Join the North American Guqin Association (NAGA) on on Saturday, December 17th at 2:00 pm for our Dec. yaji. At our last yaji Wang Fei and Ms Qian demonstrated the tradition of integrating song into guqin performance and people liked these presentations very much. On the 17th qin songs will be featured again, and we will also combine readings of ancient Chinese poetry with qin playing. Wang Fei plans to continue the theme of qin songs at the next yaji, with a talk about the life of Cai Wenji and Hujia Shiba Pai , her qin playing, and her contribution to Chinese literature. She will also discuss the Song Dynasty poetess Li Qingzhao and several of her works, such as Fenghuang Tai Shang Yi Chui Xiao ( 凤凰台上忆吹箫 ) Memories of Playing a xiao on the Phoenix Terrace, and other prominent poets who played the qin or referred to it in their poems.

In addition to our customary guqin, guzheng, and group playing other options for yaji activities include qin and xiao duets, san xian playing, and combined guqin and taiji performance.

Qin players from different countries and different states will attend. You can play the qin, chat about the qin, meet qin friends face to face instead of online, listen to qin music by different players, probably from different teachers or schools, play instruments made by various qin makers, and exchange information on the qin.

Our NAGA guqin introduction class will start very soon. If there are any new qin friends who want to know more about the guqin or about the group lessons, or who would like to meet qin friends or a teacher, you are most welcome to join us. Please see details of the classes at http://www.chineseculture.net/guqin/newsletters/grouplesson.html

The qin gathering is open to anyone interested in guqin music. Players of other instruments are especially welcome. Anyone interested in group practice should bring his or her own instrument. If anyone is interested in attending or plans to play something, please sign up and submit your program by clicking http://www.chineseculture.net/guqin/byajilist.html
